Vital Sea Stream Captivating New EP “Swirlwind”

Posted 8 months ago by Chris Freeman

Today marks the release of Swirlwind, the most recent release from Bay City, Michigan’s Vital Sea. The 6-song EP was recorded at with Nick Diener (ex-The Swellers) at Oneder Studios in Saginaw, MI available now via Road Soda Records.

Since their start in 2015, Vital Sea have released a series of songs featuring David Beuthin and his guitar. While these songs carried hefty emotional weight to them, Vital Sea was meant to be a full band project. After nearly a year of playing with a full line up, Vital Sea are proud to present to the world: Swirlwind.

Swirlwind is a twister of lush tones and washy reverb. Beuthin’s mumbled sighs sail across the surface of the crashing sonic waves, pulling the listener deep into a colorful kaleidoscope of emotion. The band borrow the rhythmic and lyrical sensibilities of Midwest Emo, and drown it in an ocean’s worth of shimmering echoes that fall into seamlessly the next song.

There is a level of emotional depth, and creative prowess that is rare from a band this early on in their career. The band have worked hard in the time since their previous release, and the fruits of their labor shine through the thick layers that engulf Swirlwind.

“It’s easily my proudest moment so far as a musician,” said Beuthin. “The emotion, music, and lyrics all kind of swirl together and I’m so happy to share it with everyone.”

Vital Sea are celebrating the release of the EP this weekend in their hometown of Bay City, Michigan alongside Mover Shaker, Kill Surf City, Pines (MI), and Starter Garden.
