Premiere: Western Daughter Attempt To Thaw Us Out with “Pillars Of Salt”

Posted 11 months ago by Joel Funk

Winter Storm Stella has firmly planted herself in the front yard of the entire Northeast, leaving us all feeling cold and betrayed by mother nature and the month of March. At this point in time, the violent winds and seemingly endless snowfall are perfectly accompanied by French toast and the new Western Daughter record. Both musically and lyrically, the tone of this record feels apt for the crisp, cool air that comes from the tail end of Winter as we begin our hopeful foray into the Spring. Today, we’re sharing a new song called “Pillars of Salt” with y’all. Given the frozen state of the entire side of the country that I live in, I hope the irony of this isn’t lost on any of you. There’s a lot of space to fill when the track starts, with just the slightly echoed vocals and simple guitar work, and much like Stella chose to do early this morning, the song eventually grows into an unrelenting beat-down that is just as beautiful as it is monstrous.

You can pre-order Driftwood Songs before its release on March 24th via Take This To Heart Records. “Pillars Of Salt” can be streamed below.
