Premiere: Jesse Etc. Ride a Sensual Groove Through Waves of “Nostalgia”
Nostalgia is, for most, best compared to the feeling of warmth that comes from being wrapped in a blanket and the immediate chill that comes from having to leave that nest. You’ll be lulled into a false comfort before coming to the stark realization that time is fleeting, and that you have absolutely no say in it. On “Nostalgia”, Jesse Etc. managed to take those feelings and turn them into something tangible. The track is built on an incredible groove and subdued vocals that sound like Ben Gibbard trying his hand at Top 40. There’s a huge musical swell around the purposefully processed crooning of “I still feel like I’m the one fucking up / You only get older, you never grow up” that truly epitomizes the feelings of warmth that are oft associated with nostalgia. This is the lead single from an incredible EP called Lavender that will appeal to fans of both mainstream and bedroom pop — bringing aspects of each into the other in a way that is only rivaled by Bellows. Lavender is out September 23rd on Near Mint Records. You can pre-order the record here, and you can stream “Nostalgia” below.
