Hot Mulligan Showcase Incredible Growth with “If You Had Spun Out In Your Oldsmobile This Probably Wouldn’t Have Happened”
The last three years of my life have been spent doing this music blog thing. Two of those years have been spent watching Hot Mulligan transform into the band they are today. It’s hard to believe that this is the same band that released Fenton. I said that when they released Honest & Cunning last year, and that’s probably going to become a constant when it comes to the way I talk about this band. I’ve loved being able to watch them grow, and that growth is evident more-so now than ever. The guys will release Opportunities on December 16th with our good friends at Save Your Generation Records. We’re bringing y’all a new song today, and I honestly couldn’t be more excited about it. “If You Had Spun Out In Your Oldsmobile This Probably Wouldn’t Have Happened” is one of my favorites to come from Opportunities.
The warm vocal harmonies that carry us into the bouncy and synth-laden verses caught me immediately; effortlessly blending together the best parts of Honest & Cunning and their split with Everyone Leaves. The bounce of the verse plays well of the bitter vibe that comes from the lyrics; a dissection of a since dissolved and apparently one-sided relationship. If that’s not enough to hook you, Tades’ gravelly and impactful voice really soars at the tail end of the song. It’s a vulnerable moment that showcases a real emotional connection to the music.
