Goodwill Hunting Chug Through A Pity Party on “Birthday Card”

Posted 10 months ago by Joel Funk

Listening to Goodwill Hunting will feel instantly familiar; a combination of the chunky and downtrodden pop of Weezer, lyricism that brings to mind Joyce Manor, and the kind of punk attitude that made me instantly think of Jeff Rosenstock, it’s an experience that only made me want to listen to more of what this band has to offer. On “Birthday Card,” Goodwill Hunting takes us on a ride through typical post-breakup mentality, but it does so with such warmth that you can’t help but bob your head and sing-along. Specifically, the final rally cry of “So happy birthday to me” will carry you into yearning to hear something more from this California-based three piece. You can pre-order their self-titled debut, which is available on June 16th through Match & Tinder Records, here and you can stream “Birthday Card” below.
